Look for the Helpers

Video

Inspired by the simple words of Mr. Rogers, Jeff's looking for people willing to make this country a better place, one neighborhood at a time. There’s no red tape. No hierarchy. Just people helping people — with joy, trust, and consistency. Whether you’re sharing food, offering a ride, giving your time, or connecting others with what they need, you’re part of something bigger.

How we Help each other

1. Today me, tomorrow youEveryone is a Helper and everyone receives Help. We honor the dignity of both. Help is not a transaction — it’s a shared human rhythm.2. There is no bossNobody’s in charge — and nobody is disposable. Trust yourself. Stay connected. Take initiative when it's your time to shine.3. Start small, start nowYou don’t need permission. A ride, a meal, a kind word — or connecting someone with the right information at the right time — it all counts. The only wrong way to Help is not to begin.4. Drudgery isn’t sustainableHelp in ways that make your soul sing. Share the load, bring your friends, and keep joy in the work so it lasts.5. Spin-offs are great, alliances are better
Build what makes sense for your community. Start something new if there's a gap — but first, look for those already doing the work. When we join forces instead of working in silos, we get more done with less effort.
6. Trust is built by showing upYou don’t need to do everything — just keep showing up. That’s what builds trust and changes the world.7. Neighbors don’t stop at the city lineWe care for the people near us — even if they're across a river, county, or zip code. Sometimes the best way to Help is to look just beyond your usual circles.

17,527 miles pedaled

...and Jeff isn't stopping until October because all of that is NOTHING compared to the 10 or 20 miles that stand in between too many people and the cancer treatments that could save their lives. None of the research matters if someone can't get to their appointments.

For over 40 years, the American Cancer Society has attacked this problem through its Road to Recovery program by connecting people who need rides with neighbors who volunteer to help out. It's been painfully short on drivers since the pandemic, though, causing most ride requests to be denied. So in 2023, Jeff set off on a three-year bike tour around the country in search of drivers. He later reshaped his route into a nationwide SOS, literally spelling out "Help!" from coat to coast and broadened his call for increased community engagement across the board.

About Us

The Helpers movement began with a bike ride — and a warning. In 2023, I set off across the country by bicycle to recruit volunteer drivers for cancer patients. The American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program was in desperate need of support. I believed that if people understood the stakes, they’d step up. In town after town, they did.But in 2025, everything changed. The new administration hastily dismantling core public programs — slashing funding, eliminating services, and gutting the safety nets that millions depend on.In response, I’ve broadened my mission and reshaped my ride into a massive act of protest and solidarity — a 20,000-mile route that will spell out “HELP!” across the United States. It’s a message to the world and a call to action at home — one that will create the largest GPS drawing ever made.

As I pedal from town to town, I’m no longer just recruiting volunteer drivers. I’m meeting organizers, advocates, and everyday people who want to be there for their neighbors. The Helpers is an idea grounded in mutual aid — the belief that we keep each other alive, and that everyone has something to offer. We follow seven guiding principles to support this work, rooted in dignity, trust, and action. This isn’t about starting another nonprofit or reinventing the wheel. It’s about building community resilience so that everyone can live with dignity.Help is a human instinct. Let’s follow it.With love and purpose,
Jeff Molby
